I didn’t go to school to get an MRS degree
I worked hard to get my PhD, so why am I called “Mrs. Pohlhaus”? Or even worse, “Mrs. Timothy Pohlhaus”… I shudder every time someone addresses me this way – as if I am not a person of my own.
I should think that the twentieth century has brought us to a time in which it is not necessary to differentiate the marital status of a woman a priori, just as we don’t have one label for married men and another for unmarried men. So, what about using instead the good old “Ms.”?
