FDA Career Opportunities for Science Professionals Approximately a quarter of every dollar spent in the U.S. is used to purchase products that are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  As a result, the Agency is faced with the constant challenge of evaluating the safety and effectiveness of healthcare products − such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and cosmetics − to protect and advance public health.  The FDA is also responsible for maintaining the integrity of the nation’s food supply by preventing food-borne illnesses caused by the consumption of tainted foods and ensuring the integrity of dietary supplements and food ingredients.
