As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, medical professionals meet patients from various backgrounds. Understanding the importance of cultural sensitivity, and being open to “non-conventional medicine” and appropriate therapies is essential for providing efficacious care.
Having been involved in medicine for quite some time, my career path has taken interesting twists due to my entrepreneurial spirit and passion for exploring the globe. This journey has allowed me to plant roots on multiple continents, turning the world into my classroom and providing me with an immersive medical education.
For several years, I’ve been a resident of an eastern African country where healthcare differs vastly from the US. Indigenous people are shocked by the number of pills those from other locations consume. Many do not or will not even take Tylenol, let alone medication for serious conditions.
