The Young laboratory in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences seeks a highly motivated and self-directed individual who will provide expertise at a comprehensive and independent level. The position requires the ability to design research methodologies, critically think, and troubleshoot potential problems. Specific skill sets include DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, expression construct design and cloning, Western blotting, cell culture, immunofluorescence imaging, and protein functional assay development. This individual will work closely with students and other research team members on a variety of exciting and challenging projects at the cutting edge of genetic eye disease research. The successful candidate will also prepare and present research results, write manuscripts and abstracts, present data at relevant research meetings, and assist in the development of grant applications.

This is a full-time position.
Candidates must have a PhD in the biological sciences or a related field, and a background in molecular biology with an emphasis in cellular and protein functional studies. Experience with cell and tissue culture is necessary. Excellent spoken and written English communication skills, and experience with Microsoft Excel and Word programs are required.
