    While the number of PhDs have continuously increased in the past few years, the trend for post docs have been different.   According to a recent study at the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, there has been a steady decline in the number of researchers in post-doctoral positions.  The authors point out a number of factors that may contribute to this phenomenon including the various titles that are often used to describe post-docs such as instructors or the fact that post docs may be spending less time in their positions.   One key factor that is becoming more evident is that more and more PhDs are considering options outside of academia much early on and realizing that a post-doc may no longer be necessary to secure a position outside of academia.   ...
