While the number of PhDs have continuously increased in the past few years, the trend for post docs have been different. According to a recent study at the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, there has been a steady decline in the number of researchers in post-doctoral positions. The authors point out a number of factors that may contribute to this phenomenon including the various titles that are often used to describe post-docs such as instructors or the fact that post docs may be spending less time in their positions.
