    A Scientist’s Toolkit of Priceless Skills Throughout my doctoral and post-doctoral training in biomedical research, I observed science primarily through test tubes, investigating how specific molecular components function within biological systems. In doing so, I acquired the aptitude to solve complex scientific questions, critically analyze experimental data, and communicate the relevance of my research to diverse audiences. These experiences ultimately provided me with a fundamental skill set to successfully conduct FDA-focused research. Nevertheless, even though the skills I gained while working in the laboratory at Vanderbilt and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) significantly contributed to making me a competitive candidate for my current research position within the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), the complementary skills I developed during this period were equally important.
